Alebrijes are brightly colored Mexican folk are sculptures of fantastical creatures. Originated in Mexico City by Pedro Linares in 1936 they were first made out of paper mache. As the art of alebrijes evolved they are now made out of Copal wood and preserve Zapotecan Identity.
